Plenty to like about Pamona

Pamona bounced right back to her best last time out and looks to hold outstanding claims of following up and providing trainer Ralph Beckett with back-to-back successes in the Group 3 Markel Insurance Fillies’ Stakes over 1m 6f at Goodwood (15.45).

Beckett saddled Simple Verse to win the race 12 months ago and in Pamona has inherited a filly who had some smart form last season when trained by Luca Cumani.

The four-year-old ran really well when third in a Listed contest at Newbury and went on to finish a cracking third of 10 to Curvy in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Pamona was subsequently not at her best in six subsequent starts, despite finishing second in a Listed contest in France, and joined Beckett for the start of this campaign.

York form reads well

The daughter of Duke Of Marmalade looked in need of the run on her first start for her new handler but did the job in style when beating Barsanti by two lengths in a Listed contest at York.

Pamona stayed on strongly to win going away at the line and had useful performers such as Quest For More in behind.

That was her first start for over a year, and also her first crack at 1m 6f, and the daughter of Duke Of Marmalade should have plenty more to offer.

Twitch in with a big shout

Trainer John Gosden saddles a couple of interesting contenders in California and Mill Spring who command plenty of respect, but Twitch may well give the selection most to think about.

Doncaster day 2

Trained by the in-form Hugo Palmer, the filly ran very well over 1m 4f at the track back on seasonal reappearance when third to Carnachy and has since run well to finish third in a Group 3 at Cork.

Twitch also posted a solid effort last time out when runner-up in a 1m 4f Listed contest at Newmarket when attempting to make all and sticking to the task well when headed to go down by 3/4 of a length to Forever Popular.

Judged on that run the daughter of Azamour is well worth another crack at this trip, and if allowed an easy lead Twitch could prove tough to peg back on a track which suits those ridden prominently.

Coral’s top tip: Pamona brings the strongest form to the table and looks worth a wager to land the spoils. Twitch hails from a stable in red-hot form and could prove dangerous if allowed an easy lead.
