Course specialist Mount Logan can collect at Goodwood
Mount Logan has a tremendous record Goodwood and looks the answer to the Group 3 Glorious Stakes on Friday (14:00).
The Roger Varian trained five-year-old is unbeaten in three runs at the Sussex venue, with the last of those successes coming in a Listed contest on seasonal reappearance where he scored cosily by a neck despite looking in need of the run beforehand.
Mount Logan was then disappointing at Royal Ascot when fourth to Dartmouth in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes, keeping on from well-off the pace to be nearest at the finish and beaten just over seven lengths.
Drop in class a plus
This represents a drop in class in relation to that contest, and the return to this venue has to be a big plus.
Connections will also surely not adopt the same exaggerated tactics again, as Mount Logan’s best form has come when he has been ridden handily on the heels of the leaders.
With ante post favourite Scottish having been ruled out of the contest at the eleventh hour due to a pulled muscle, this looks a nice opportunity for Mount Logan to bag a first Group success.
King’s Fete out to make amends
King’s Fete looked a desperately unlucky loser last time out at Royal Ascot, and looks sure to make a bold bid to gain compensation.
Trained by Sir Michael Stoute, this gelding developed into a smart sort in 2014 and, having missing all of last year through injury, has quickly got his career back on track.
After finishing a promising fifth on return to action over course and distance in a Listed contest when looking badly in need of the run and tenderly handled, the five-year-old ran a blinder when third of 19 to Kinema in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes.
Lucky to stay on feet
King’s Fete was held-up in the latter by Ryan Moore before making stealthy headway two from home, and was coming with what looked like a winning challenge between two horses inside the last when getting sandwiched and nearly ending up on the deck.
Moore had to badly snatch-up King’s Fete, so it was to his credit that he was beaten just 1 1/2 lengths.
Judged on that effort, the son of King’s Best clearly retains stacks of ability and is well worth a crack at this level.
