Gold Faith has plenty going for him

Gold Faith scored in good style last time out, and can make light of a rise in the weights to land the Qatar Handicap at Glorious Goodwood this Saturday (14:35).

Trained by Ralph Beckett, the gelding shaped with plenty of promise in his first two starts this season and relished the step up to 1m 4f when running out the ready winner of a decent contest at Newmarket.

After being held-up, Gold Faith scythed through the field two furlongs from home to take up the running approaching the last and stretch clear to beat Rockspirit going away by 2 1/2 lengths off a mark of 79.

Epsom Races

It was a most taking display, and one which suggested the three-year-old should have plenty more to offer now that he had found his ideal trip.

A 7lb rise does not look harsh if that proves to be the case, while Gold Faith has a bagged a good draw in stall three.

Another plus is that Beckett boasts a healthy strike rate of just over 21 per cent with his runners at the track in the past 12 months and, with Harry Bentley in the saddle, everything looks in place for a huge run.

Move Up has more to offer

Move Up has won three of his five starts and showed a good attitude in the last of those when beating Gershwin by a short-head over 1m 2f at Sandown.

Leicester

The Godolphin owned colt dug deep to get up right on the line and deny a highly-regarded sort with the pair pulling 2 1/4 lengths clear of the third.

Judged on that effort, the extra two furlongs in this should suit and Move Up could well be a pattern performer in the making.

Shouldering top weight will not be easy, but the three-year-old has a touch of class and commands plenty of respect.

Paris Protocol a lively outsider

Paris Protocol has been shaping better than his form figures suggest, so looks a lively outsider and each-way value.

Richard Hannon

This Richard Hannon colt opened his account on his final start of 2015 with a comfortable 2 3/4 lengths success over Stargazer at Salisbury, and ran well on return to action when fifth behind that rival at Sandown.

Paris Protocol also ran far better than the final finishing position suggests on his penultimate outing. He was sixth of 16 to Primitivo in the King Gorge V Stakes at Royal Ascot, when being rushed-up from off the pace to challenge before weakening late on.

Taking all that into account, a handicap mark of 90 looks exploitable.

Coral’s top tip: Gold Faith looked a handicapper to keep onside when scoring last time out and is decent value to go in again. Paris Protocol can go well at a big price.
