Coral’s bet of the day
- Edmund is ranked over 100 places higher than Diez
- Brit has been in sensational form in recent months
- Home hope Diez won’t faze Edmund who beat Serbia away
Edmund is 9/4 to be leading 2-0 in first set
Kyle Edmund begins his 2016 Rogers Cup (Canada Masters) campaign at roughly 16:00 BST on Monday against home hope Steven Diez in the opening round.
It is from this fixture that Coral have picked our bet of the day for, with hugely tempting odds of 2/1 on offer for the recent British number two to claim a 2-0 lead in the first set.
Read on to find out why this hand-picked price is too good not to take…
Edmund has been in the form of his life of late, after almost single-handedly defeating Serbia away in front of a partisan crowd in the Davis Cup quarters.
The 21-year-old didn’t drop a set in his two singles rubbers against Janko Tipsarevic and Dusan Lajovic, and so should have no troubles facing Canadian-born Diez in front of his own fans either.
Edmund hungry to regain ranking
At 84 in the ATP rankings – he’s slipped 16 places after taking time out of the tour to play in the Davis Cup – Edmund is 108 places above former Spain representative Diez.
The 25-year-old Canadian wildcard has never reached the main draw of a Grand Slam, while has not played in a hard court event since much earlier in the year.
While South African-born Yorkshireman Edmund has never faced Diez before, he’ll be determined to rise back up the rankings, after compatriots Aljaz Bedene and Dan Evans overtook him in the last week.
So, what are you waiting for punters? Take this fantastic 2/1 price for Edmund to take advantage of recent British success in tennis, including Johanna Konta’s recent WTA Tour title triumph in Stanford.
