Angela Eagle has been cut into 9-4 (from 7-2) by leading bookmaker Coral to be the next Labour leader after she confirmed she will officially announce her bid for the leadership of the party on Monday. Owen Smith is second best in the betting at 7-2 to follow in the shoes of Jeremy Corbyn, while David Miliband is 9-1 to be the next leader.

Coral is offering odds of 7-4 that Jeremy Corbyn steps down as Labour leader in 2016, while they go 4-11 that he is not the leader of the party at the next General Election.

Elsewhere, in the Conservative leadership race, Theresa May remains the long odds-on favourite at 1-4 to replace David Cameron, while Andrea Leadsom is the 3-1 outsider.

“Jeremy Corbyn is odds-on not to be in charge of the Labour party at the next General Election and after she announced her plans to stand for the leadership of the party, Angela Eagle is the favourite to replace the Labour leader,” said Coral’s John Hill.

“In the Conservative leadership race, Theresa May is now the long odds-on favourite to beat Andrea Leadsom in what is now a two-horse race,” added Hill.
