Rumour Reel: Alexis off to Italy, Robertson heads to the Reds while McGovern becomes Saint
Robbie Purves | June 24, 2016
Despite the summer transfer window officially opening on July 1st, clubs are already chasing down their targets one by one as they look to complete some of their business while Euro 2016 hots up.
Arsenal’s Alexis off to Italy
Alexis Sanchez is set to be targeted by Juventus, according to reports. Massimiliano Allegri’s outfit will lose Alvaro Morata to a £24m Real Madrid buy-back clause, and reports now suggest they will target Arsenal’s Sanchez.
The Old Lady were initially interested in Romelu Lukaku and Edinson Cavani, but their price tags have put off the Serie A champions from making a move and see Sanchez as the cheapest option and most likely to be prised away.
The Chile star criticised his teammates’ lack of hunger this past campaign and could be at a real risk of leaving, after growing frustrated with the lack of progress made under Arsene Wenger.
Sanchez registered 17 goals and 11 assists in all competitions this past term and is contracted until the summer of 2018.
Robertson heads to the Reds
Hull City left back Andy Robertson, could be headhunted by Liverpool – reports suggest.
The Tigers have slapped a £12m price tag on the Scottish International after the Reds failed to convince Leicester to accept a £7m bid for Ben Chilwell.
Liverpool are devoid of a reliable left back, as Alberto Moreno experienced a mixed year and was graphically exposed against Sevilla in the Europa League final.
Robertson is superb technically and possesses a lethal cross that he whips in at the first opportunity – the Glaswegian can also play on the left side of midfield.
Hero McGovern to become Saint
Northern Ireland goalkeeper Michael McGovern could be on the way to Southampton to become Fraser Forster’s number two.
The England keeper struggled with injury last season and Southampton are looking to prepare for a occurrence.
Reports suggest the Saints have been impressed by his outstanding performances at Euro 2016 and will make contact with the free agent, who spent last term with Hamilton Academical.
The Keeper is thought to have a number of options on his plate and may not want to become a number two, instead favour a move to Alan Stubb’s Rotheram United.
Bilic bids for Batshuayi
West Ham United have reportedly bid £28m for Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi. The Belgian scored 17 goals this term in Ligue 1 and has been subject to interest from Tottenham and Juve over recent weeks.
If accepted, the signing would smash their record, set by the signing of Andy Carroll in 2013 for £15m.
A marquee transfer has been targeted as the Hammers move into the Olympic Stadium and have been linked with a jaw-dropping £41.6m for Alexandre Lacazette.
Les Olympiens have been under pressure to sell players of late, as they could be fined by French authorities for financial misconduct.
