Remarkable ready to rock in Jersey Stakes

Remarkable has a progressive profile and looks cracking each-way value in a wide open renewal of the Group 3 Jersey Stakes which kicks-off proceedings on day two of Royal Ascot (14.30).

The John Gosden trained colt shaped with plenty of promise on his sole run as a juvenile when eighth of 14 to subsequent 2,000 Guineas runner-up Massaat in a hot maiden at Leicester, and had little difficulty opening his account when landing a 7f contest at Southwell by 2 1/4 lengths.

Remarkable

Remarkable then lived up to his name when landing a 17-runner handicap over 6f at Doncaster with far more in hand than the winning margin of 1 3/4 lengths suggests.

Huge engine and on a serious upward curve

After losing stacks of ground when dwelling at the start, the three-year-old appeared to be going nowhere two from home.

However, Remarkable then responded to the urgings of jockey Rab Havlin and took off to come with a storming late run inside the final furlong and win going away at the line.

It was a breathtaking performance and one which showed Remarkable had a huge engine and needed keeping firmly onside.

Soft ground will hold no fears

The son of Pivotal then lost little in defeat when stepped up into Listed company and finishing runner-up to Log Out Island at Newbury when last seen in action, allowing the all-the-way winner far too much rope before staying on strongly to be beaten 3 1/4 lengths.

Remarkable would have given the winner plenty to think about if ridden more positively, and pulled well clear of the rest of the field to give the form a solid look.

Doncaster day 2

The step back up to 7f will hold no fears, and Pivotal progeny relish soft ground so the underfoot conditions should hold no fears for Remarkable.

Castle Harbour another player for Gosden

Gosden also saddle Castle Harbour who is unbeaten in two starts and looks a big player. After racing keenly and making all to win a maiden on soft ground at Newmarket in April, the colt then followed up in a hot 20-runner handicap at York in contrasting style.

After settling much better and being held-up at the rear, Castle Harbour made smooth headway two from home to take up the running at the furlong marker before staying on strongly to score readily by 1 1/2 lengths.

It was a most taking performance, and one which suggested the son of Kyllachy was far better than a handicapper and well worth a crack at this level.

Coral’s top tip: Trainer Johsn Gosden has two strong contenders in the shape of Castle Harbour and Remarkable, and the latter looks well worth an each-way wager in a wide open renewal of the Jersey Stakes.
