Paris Protocol primed for big run in King George V Stakes
Paris Protocol shaped well on seasonal reappearance and looks decent each-way value in the King George V Stakes which brings proceedings to a close on day three of Royal Ascot (17.35).
The Richard Hannon trained colt ran really well to make the frame in hot maidens at Sandown and this venue before opening his account at the third time of asking with a comfortable 2 3/4 lengths success over Stargazer at Salisbury.
Paris Protocol raced prominently in the latter before taking up the lead two from home and only having to be driven out to score with plenty in hand.
It was a most taking display and the three-year-old was allotted what looked a workable opening handicap mark of 93 on the back of it.
Promising return to action
Although only fifth of 12 off it on return to action at Sandown in April, Paris Protocol ran far better than the bare result suggests and kept on nicely to be beaten just over five lengths without being given a hard time.
The sixth, ninth and 11th home have all come out and won since to give the form a solid look, and Paris Protocol finished 4 3/4 lengths behind the runner-up Lovell who he now meets on 8lb better terms.
There shouldn’t be much between the pair on the revised terms, yet there is a massive gulf between them in the betting which suggests Paris Protocol is well worth an each-way wager.
Silver Line looks pure gold in Norfolk Stakes
Silver Line looked a smart prospect when scoring on debut and can take the step up into Group 2 company in his stride to land the Group 2 Norfolk Stakes run over the flying 5f (14.30).
The Saeed bin Suroor trained colt has always been held in high regard and could not have been more impressive when beating Bolt Phantom by 3 1/2 lengths in a five-runner contest at Nottingham last month.
After showing plenty of speed to race in touch, the two-year-old made stealthy headway two from home to take up the running at the furlong marker.
Smart turn of foot
Silver Line then showed a smart turn of foot when jockey James Doyle pushed the button and stretched clear to win with real authority.
It was a performance which suggested the son of Dark Angel was well-above average, and the runner-up was far from disgraced when 13th of 22 in the Windsor Castle Stakes at the meeting earlier in the week.
With the prospect of plenty more improvement to come, and Doyle once again in the saddle, Silver Line can take this en route to even better things.
