Robot Boy ready to rock in Scottish Sprint Cup
Robot Boy has been given a chance by the handicapper and looks decent each-way value in a typically wide-open and fierce renewal of the Scottish Sprint Cup at Musselburgh run over the flying 5f (15:45).
The David Barron trained gelding won the consolation race for this contest in 2014 before following up in good style at Newcastle, and got back to winning ways on his second outing last season when readily betting Normal Equilibrium by a length at Newbury off a mark of 103.
Robot Boy went on to finish a cracking 3 1/2 length eighth of 18 to Goldream in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, and backed that up with a solid fourth of 18 to Double Up in a competitive contest at Ascot off a mark of 106.
The form of those races read extremely well in the context of this contest, and the six-year-old now returns to action off a reduced rating of 97.
That is 6lb lower than when last successful and gives the son of Shamardal major claims at the weights on the pick of his form.
Robot Boy also has a good record fresh, and is guaranteed to get the strong pace he needs to be seen at his best in a field full of trailblazers.
With the Barron yard now beginning to hit top gear, and Phil Makin in the saddle, everything looks in place for a big run.
Barnet Fair can reign supreme for the Sprint King
Trainer Dandy Nicholls is know as the “Sprint King” and Barnet Fair can bag him another big pot in the Scottish Sprint Cup consolation race (15:10).
The eight-year-old is on a long losing run, having not scored since landing the Stewards Cup consolation race at Goodwood back in August 2014 by a short-head off a mark of 90.
However, the veteran has run a number of solid races including when runner-up in the same race on the Sussex downs last year off the same rating.
Barnet Fair is now able to race in this off 2lb lower, and a rating of 88 is the gelding’s lowest in nearly six years.
It gives Barnet Fair a huge chance at the weights now dropped into class 3 company having shaped as if coming to hand in two runs this season in class 2 affairs .
