Coral’s bet of the day

  • Federer has won opening set 6-4 v Mayer twice before
  • Swiss superstar has beaten German in all six meetings
  • All-time great beat previous Mercedes Cup opponent 6-4 in first set

Federer to win opening set 6-4 at 7/2

The 2016 Mercedes Cup, formerly on clay for almost 100 years but now on grass since 2015, is now at the quarter-final stage, and all-time tennis great Roger Federer takes on qualifier and fellow veteran Florian Mayer.

It is from this clash that Coral have picked out our Friday bet of the day form, with tasty odds of 7/2 available for the Swiss superstar to win the opening set 6-4.

So, read on to find out why you should back this enticing price…

Federer has faced Mayer, not to be confused with Argentine namesake Leonardo Mayer, on six previous occasions (three on grass), and has won them all.

Crucially, though, two of which were via a 6-4 scoreline in the opening set in the Switzerland icon’s favour, including one on this surface.

Federer’s favoured scoreline v Mayer is 6-4

In fact, seven-time Wimbledon winner Federer has recorded a 6-4 scoreline for sets over Mayer on four previous occasions.

On top of that, 17-time Grand Slam champion Federer claimed the opener against Taylor Fritz by that same result this event, as well as the final set.

Mayer has gone witnessed that scoreline twice this tournament too, to German compatriot Michael Berrer in the last round and Viktor Troicki before that, already both in his favour.

Federer, 34, has only ever dropped one set against 32-year-old Mayer before, out of 14, and never the opening set, so is unlikely to do so now.

So, what are you waiting for punters? Back this brilliant bet now at 7/2, in this Wimbledon warm-up competition, to reap rewards.
