Wet weather doesn’t dampen betting opportunities

Wimbledon 2016 - Day Two - The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club

Rain may have put the Wimbledon 2016 schedule behindhand somewhat, but the All England Club is well versed in dealing with delays. One way or another, the order of play will catch up.

A star attraction set to play this Thursday is the best lady tennis professional on the planet in all-time Grand Slam great Serena Williams, who is the 11/8 favourite with Coral to retain her SW19 title and tie Steffi Graf’s Open Era individual Majors record.

Our tennis tipsters have once again come up with five bets we think are worth backing on day four of the Wimbledon Championships…

Serena v McHale match to contain tiebreak

Britain Wimbledon Tennis

WTA world number one Williams will play compatriot Christina McHale on a third different surface of the season, having triumphed over her fellow American on hard and clay courts.

That latter meeting at the Rome Masters saw the first set go to a tiebreak. Given how Serena didn’t look at her best when beating Grand Slam debutant Amra Sadikovic in round, this could well happen again.

As McHale has taken a set off Williams, however, it is safer to take the 6/1 about any of the potential three going the distance, rather than nailing you colours to the mast about the opener at 11/1.

Moore can take set off Kuznetsova

Britain Wimbledon Tennis

Saying women’s 13th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova is the Russian number one is to forget she holds that position by default following Maria Sharapova’s drugs ban.

In recent years at Wimbledon, Kuznetsova has only made round three once in five attempts. Grass is clearly not her favoured surface, and that means British hope Tara Moore looks great value to go down fighting 2-1 at 11/4.

Born in Hong Kong, Moore must bridge a gap of more 200 places in the WTA rankings, but showcased her talents by beating former French Open quarter-finalist Alison Van Uytvanck.

Cibulkova and Gavrilova go the distance

Wimbledon 2016 - Day Two - The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club

Eastbourne champion Dominika Cibulkova has looked good on grass this season, but comes up against younger legs in Russian-born Australian competitor Daria Gavrilova.

The Slovakian will probably emerge from this battle with the third round at Wimbledon her usual point of departure, but Gavrilova has raised her own game in 2016 by making the second week of the Australian Open.

Over 2.5 sets in this battle between Cibulkova and Gavrilova is a sweet 6/4 price, and gives the punters the security if the unseeded Aussie upsets the women’s world number 17.

Vandeweghe to beat Babos in straight sets

Wimbledon 2016 - Day Two - The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club

Hungary’s Timea Babos has a habit of ruining the chances of British women at Grand Slams, but now comes up against recent Ricoh Open champion Coco Vandeweghe at Wimbledon.

That event in the Netherlands is on grass, and the form of that WTA event looks good for the American here. Take evens for Vandeweghe to record a 2-0 result over Babos.

Garcia grabs Siniakova first set 6-3

Wimbledon 2016 - First Round - London

France’s 30th seed Caroline Garcia has an outstanding chance to match her best-ever performance at a tennis Major by beating Czech Republic youngster Katerina Siniakova.

Winning their only previous meeting in her homeland last year, Garcia took the first and third sets 6-3, making that scoreline in their opener a nifty 9/2 chance to occur again.
