Crunch clashes in women’s draw on day three
Wednesday’s action from the ladies’ singles section at Wimbledon 2016 sees the likes of recent French Open champion Garbine Muguruza, Venus Williams and Simona Halep take to the courts for the second round.

Halep to beat Schiavone in three
Romania’s finest Halep is perhaps the best current player never to have won a Grand Slam title, though consistently makes it to the latter rounds of the major events.
The 24-year-old comes up against clay court specialist Francesca Schiavone, after easily disposing of Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, and should be able to get the better of the Italian.
Halep lost their only previous encounter, though it was on clay, so back her at 3/1 to come through in three sets here.
Stosur to win first set 6-3 v Lisicki
In seven previous meetings between Sam Stosur and Sabine Lisicki, the first set has finished 6-3 on four occasions.
The Australian has won three of those, including once on grass before, so is a very tempting 7/1 shout to do so once more.
Flipkens to defeat Keys
Madison Keys may be ranked much higher than Kirsten Flipkens in the WTA rankings at nine, but the latter has gone further at Wimbledon – the semi-finals in 2013.
The Belgian 30-year-old has also beaten the American before, and looked so comfortable in the first round against another from Keys’ compatriots Nicole Gibbs, as she dropped just four games.
Allertova to beat Suarez Navarro
Spanish 12th seed Carla Suarez Navarro has become a very consistent player on tour, reaching quarter-finals at the Australian, French and US Opens.
However, her best showing at Wimbledon is just the fourth round, which was back in 2013, and she lost to upcoming opponent Denisa Allertova in their only previous meeting, in last year’s Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows.
Young Czech Allertova, therefore, is 5/2 just to beat the Spaniard again.
Errani to edge Cornet 2-1
Having beaten Alize Cornet in each of their last four meetings, and being ranked 40 places higher at number 21 in the WTA rankings, it might be a surprise that Sara Errani is not favourite to come through this match.
Frenchwoman Cornet has gone one round further than the Italian at Wimbledon, reaching the last 16 in 2014, but is unlikely to claim her first victory over her since way back in 2008.
It could be a close clash, though, so back Errani at 10/3 to overcome Cornet in three sets.
