Even Song cut for Oaks with doubts about Ballydoyle stablemates

Even Song has been cut to 7/1 from 9/1 for the Investec Oaks by Coral, the official betting partner of the Investec Derby Festival, with neither of her shorter-priced stable-mates Minding and Ballydoyle certain runners.

Minding remains a lukewarm 5/4 favourite for the Oaks after her defeat in Sunday’s Irish 1000 Guineas with Ballydoyle proving friendless too at 9/2.

Skiffle has been installed as a 10/1 chance following the news that she is to be supplemented for the race by Godolphin, and Architecture has been clipped into 14/1 from 16/1 after Frankie Dettori was confirmed as her rider.

The Aidan O’Brien trained Even Song has only had three starts and, after winning her maiden at Leopardstown, ran an eye-catching race last time out when staying on third in the Listed Pretty Polly Stakes over 1m 2f at Newmarket after encountering trouble in-running.

Simon Clare, Coral Spokesman, said: “With some doubts surrounding the participation of both Minding and Ballydoyle, a positive bulletin about Even Song prompted her odds to shorten while there was also support for both Skiffle and Architecture for the race.”

Postponed all the rage for Coronation Cup

Postponed is 4/6 favourite (from 4/5) with Coral for the Group 1 Coronation Cup at Epsom on Saturday, June 4th, following a pleasing workout at the track and news that leading Irish filly Found was set to miss the 1m 4f contest.

The four-year-old has won his last four starts in impressive fashion, including the Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan when last seen in action.

He worked well during “Breakfast With The Stars” at Epsom, leaving trainer Roger Varian delighted.

Varian said: “Postponed is a very experienced horse but he has never been to Epsom before. It was a sensible workout which gave him a feel of the contours of the track.

“The work got his blood pumping and he will have grown an inch. He has a great temperament and is very relaxed.

“He is an exceptionally good-looking horse and the plan is for him to defend his crown in the King George after the Coronation Cup.”

Palmer believes Architecture has live each-way chance in Oaks

Trainer Hugo Palmer was in bullish mood about the chances of Architecture in the Investec Oaks after a workout at Epsom in the hands of Dettori, and Coral make her 14/1 (from 16s) for the fillies classic on Friday, June 3rd.

The three-year-old has only had three starts, and ran a blinder when finishing a 3/4 length runner-up to Seventh Heaven in the Oaks Trial at Lingfield.

Architecture worked with stable companion Harry Champion at the track’s annual “Breakfast With The Stars” and pulled readily clear of stable companion Harry Champion.

Dettori said: “I was surprised actually. Architecture gave me a good feel – we were only doing a mile with an inferior horse but she handled the track really well. She ran a great race at Lingfield so we know the distance is no problem and I think she will be a force to be reckoned with.”

“Architecture gave me a good feel…”

Palmer added: “Architecture is only the winner of a maiden and was beaten in her trial and I think Frankie might have thought before today it is nice to have a ride in the Investec Oaks but I am not sure she has a great chance.

“I was disappointed she did not win at Lingfield but delighted that she went forward from her mile maiden win. It was bit step up in class and only the third run of her life.

“These horses change so much at this time of year when the spring comes. They improve so quickly and I won the Irish Oaks last year with Covert Love who won a handicap off 82 at this time 12 months ago.

“These young improving horses do so much at this time of year that they can really catch you out. I am glad I put Architecture in the Investec Oaks as she is in advance at Covert Love at this stage, though it does not mean she will reach the same heights.”
