O’Brien hoping for more Coronation Cup glory with Found
Found is set to take on Postponed after all in the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Cup at Epsom on Saturday, June 4th, and Coral make her a 9/2 shot to provide leading Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien with his eighth winner of the Group 1 contest.
O’Brien’s previous wins in the contest came courtesy of Yeats (2005), Scorpion (2007), Soldier of Fortune (2008), Fame and Glory (2010), St Nicholas Abbey (2011, 2012, 2013).
Found was not expected to line up after finishing second to Fascinating Rock in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh, but the Ballydoyle handler reports last autumn’s Breeders’ Cup Turf winner to have taken her recent exertions so well that she now looks like taking her chance.
Other fillies prepared to lock horns with Postponed in the 1m 4f contest are the Ralph Beckett trained St Leger heroine Simple Verse (4/1 second favourite with Coral) and Juddmonte International scorer Arabian Queen (14/1).
Arabian Queen in great form
The latter is trained by David Elsworth and caused a massive shock in last year’s Juddmonte when belying odds of 50/1 to beat Investec Derby winner Golden Horn by a neck in the hands of Silvestre De Sousa.
De Sousa, who will one again be in the saddle, reports the four-year-old to be in “great form”.
He said: “Arabian Queen ran well on her return at Newmarket, just needing the run. I would say she has come on a bit for the race.
“She has got plenty of speed but she should get the mile and a half no problem. There are a lot of classy horses in the race, but she is classy too.”
Postponed a solid favourite
Postponed remains a rock solid 4/6 favourite with Coral for the for the £400k contest following the latest declaration stage which saw 10 horses remain in the mix.
Successful in last season’s King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, the Roger Varian trained five-year-old has won both his starts this year at Meydan, most recently taking the Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic on March 16th in impressive fashion.
Postponed is now unbeaten in his last four races, two of which have been in Group 1 company, and will once again have the services of Andrea Atzeni in the saddle who has partnered him to six of his seven career successes.
