Burmese can blow away Dynamite in Henry II Stakes
Burmese has a progressive profile and looks decent value to get the better of Max Dynamite and land the Group 3 Henry II Stakes on this evening’s top class card at Sandown (19:05).
The Marcus Tregoning trained gelding came into his own last season when stepped up in trip, opening his account at Bath before following up in good style at Kempton.
Burmese went on to complete the hat-trick on his final start of the campaign when posting an impressive display to land a competitive 12-runner handicap at Ascot easing down by 2 3/4 lengths.
The manner of the victory suggested that the four-year-old needing keeping firmly onside, and that view was confirmed when Burmese finished an eye-catching fifth to Mizzou in the Group 3 Sagaro Stakes at Ascot last month.
Promising comeback effort at Ascot
After being held-up in touch travelling well, the son of Sir Percy was denied a clear run when trying to make a move two from home before being switched left and keeping on nicely to be beaten just 2 1/2 lengths.
The runner-up Clever Cookie has since come out and landed the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup to give the form a solid look, and Burmese finished just a head behind the fourth home Suegioo who went into the contest with the benefit of a run under his belt.
It was a highly promising comeback run by Burmese, and punters could well see him to turn the tables with Suegioo.
Although he has 9lb to find with Max Dynamite on official ratings, Burmese remains relatively unexposed as a stayer, looks the type who is open to further improvement, and should now be spot on to do himself justice.
Max Dynamite sets the standard
Max Dynamite hails from the all-conquering yard of top Irish trainer Willie Mullins, and sets a clear standard judged on his excellent second of 24 in the Melbourne Cup when last seen in action.
The six-year-old looked an unlucky loser in “The Race That Stops A Nation”, finding himself blocked behind a wall of horses in 10th two from home before being switched wide and finishing with a rattle to be gaining all the way to the line and beaten just 1/2 a length.
Prior to that, Max Dynamite had run out the impressive winner of the Group 2 Lonsdale Stakes at York when beating Mizzou by 4 1/2 lengths, and on a line through the runner-up has the beating of Burmese.
However, this will be Max Dynamite’s first run for 205 days and the small field may not play to his strengths. For that reason, it’s worth taking on the the red-hot favourite.
