Bookies suspend betting on the next James Bond

Bookmaker Coral has suspended betting on the next James Bond, following a sustained gamble on Tom Hiddleston in the last twenty-four hours. The 35-year-old actor stormed into the betting as the 2-1 favourite to replace Daniel Craig, but after a large gamble, his odds crashed all the way down to 1-2 before the market was suspended this morning.

Idris Elba and Damian Lewis were all front-runners for the job in previous months, but now the odds suggest they have missed the cut. Before the betting was suspended, Elba was priced at 9-1, with Lewis at 14-1. If the gamble is wrong, Coral believe Aidan Turner or Tom Hardy will get the 007 job.

“There is no smoke without fire, and following the big gamble on Tom Hiddleston in the last 24 hours, we’ve had no choice but to pull the plug on the market,” said Coral’s Nicola McGeady.

“Earlier in the year there was a gamble on Idris Elba and Damian Lewis, but nothing has come close to the recent gamble on Hiddleston,” added McGeady.
