Bookmaker Coral has slashed the odds on temperatures soaring above 25C this weekend to 1-3 from 1-2, as bets continue to pour in on a record-breaking summer. The firm has already cut the odds on this summer being the hottest ever to 2-1 from 3-1, while it is 10-1 that this May is also the hottest on record.

With Sunday expected to be the hottest day of the year so far, some punters believe the mercury could rise to 30C or more, which has been priced at 2-1.

“The latest odds are really starting to suggest that we could be in for a scorcher this summer and punters are convinced that this weekend will be the start of things to come,” said Coral’s Nicola McGeady.
