Magpies’ Man City record unhappy reading

Rafael Benitez’s Newcastle United were undoubtedly revived at the weekend as they sank Swansea City in a 3-0 thrashing. However, though the Premier League relegation risks will be buoyed by that result, it goes without saying that they face a much sterner test at St James’ Park against Manchester City.

To start with, unlike the Swans, City still have something to play for as they seek to cement their top four position. While, the Magpies’ recent efforts against their Mancunian foes does not make pretty reading.

Manuel Pellegrini’s Citizens are therefore odds-on at 4/7 to take all three points, no matter how loud the terrifically vocal Toon Army may be on Tuesday.

The Sky Blues have already struck six past the Tynesiders this term, and have notched 26 times in their last seven league outings against them, meaning Man City are 5/1 to score four or more again, or 6/4 to be winning at both half-time and full-time.

Benitez’s boys can breach Sky Blues backline

Newcastle haven’t defeated City in the league since 2005, but the Magpies have arguably the greater motive in this match-up after magnificently restoring drop zone hope.

The Sky Blues centre backs were superb against Chelsea, but do have mistakes in them that Benitez will be hoping to exploit in front of home fans. Newcastle are 17/4 to make it two triumphs on the trot and, if they can get ahead of Norwich City on goal difference as well as win, could pull the Canaries into the drop zone with this game in hand on their relegation rivals.

Recent wing recruit Andros Townsend excelled against Swansea and is 7/2 to strike again anytime, while Dutch attacker Georginio Wijnaldum and nimble Spanish net threat Ayoze Perez are the same price to poach in that market.

Citizens’ high-scoring to continue

Having racked up so many strikes against Newcastle in recent history, Coral customers can take advantage of some superb scorer shouts, and a few enticing alternative markets to boot for this battle.

Sergio Aguero was sublime last time out against Chelsea as he hit a hat-trick and, after finding the net a formidable five times against this Tyne team earlier in the term, he is 3/1 to open the scoring again and the same price to bag a brace or better.

With 10 career goals in nine games against Newcastle, it is tough to look past a 4/1 price for excellent Aguero to be named as Sky Sports’ Man of the Match against the Magpies. Though, partner in crime Kevin De Bruyne has also been devilish of late, and punters can plump for both in an enticing anytime scorer double of 4/1.

Alternatively, customers can opt for dangerous De Bruyne at 5/1 to dispatch a double or more himself, with young-gun Kelechi Iheanacho even-money to ripple the net anytime.
