Casey and Westwood hurt bookmakers in US Masters placings

US Masters champion Danny Willett was available at 66-1 with leading bookmaker Coral before the tournament got underway on Thursday and like many of the British players in the field for Augusta, the Yorkshireman carried enough support to ensure it was a costly result for Coral.
The firm, though, can report that Paul Casey and Lee Westwood did them the most damage as the 66-1 and 200-1 shots, respectively, were two of the most popular each-way selections with punters ahead of the tournament.
“Although we got the big boys at the top of the market beat, it has still not proved to be a great Masters result. Willett was not short of supporters, but, where we have been hit the most has been with Casey and Westwood both finishing in the top six as they were two of the most popular each-way selections,” said Coral’s John Hill.
Coral has installed Willett at 5-1 in their betting for the 2016 Sports Personality of the Year, while the man from Sheffield has been cut into 25-1 (from 66-1) for the US Open and 25-1 (from 66-1) to come out on top at Royal Troon for the Open Championship later this year.
“No golfer has been named the Sports Personality of the Year in 27 years, however, surely Willett’s success at Augusta gives him a great chance of winning the award,” added Hill.
