Coral’s bet of the day

  • Murray won most recent meeting on clay
  • Scotsman thrashed Raonic 6-2 6-0 in quarters
  • Nadal’s form has plummeted in past couple years

Murray is 4/1 to beat Nadal 2-1

Old friends and foes Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal duel for their 23rd meeting on the ATP Tour, as they tussle in the Monte Carlo Rolex Masters semi-finals on Saturday.

So, as part of Coral’s bet of the day, we have picked the enticing price of 4/1 for the Scot to defeat the Spaniard 2-1. Read on to find out why you should back this brilliant bet…

Nadal may have a better record over Murray, but lost his most recent meeting on clay, which came at the Madrid Masters final last year in straight sets.

In fact, the Spain star’s Masters and Grand Slam titles have completely dried up in the past couple of years, while the Scotsman has soared back to number two in the rankings after winning six singles tournaments last year, as well as the Davis Cup.

Supreme Scot smashes past Raonic

Murray is in top form of late too, and just thrashed the dangerous Milos Raonic 6-2 6-0 in the quarters, in a display showcasing his all-round abilities.

“The two most important shots in tennis I did really well,” Murray said following the match against the Montenegro-born Canadian.

“I was getting a good read on the serve and, when he missed the first serve, I was being very offensive on the second serve return and putting him under pressure.

“The serve and the return for me were the best they’ve been for a while and I’m glad, because they weren’t so strong the last couple of matches.”

With top-ranked Novak Djokovic and all-time great Roger Federer now knocked out of the competition, Murray’s path to lift his first ever Monte Carlo Masters title has been dramatically cleared. So, Britain’s number one will be all the more inspired to taste yet more success.
