Atletico Madrid v Barcelona - UEFA Champions League - Quarter Final - Second Leg - Vicente Calderon

Simeone’s side superb at Vicente Calderon

There is no denying Pep Guardiola’s Bayern guys face a daunting task as they attempt to breach Atletico’s stout defence which is, statistically, the best in the Champions League.

In the Bundesliga their are plenty of teams the Munich men can steamroll, but not in Madrid, as Spanish capital club Atleti have lost only three clashes across all competitions at the Vicente Calderon this campaign and, crucially, Diego Simeone’s disciplined disciples have won 12 of their last 16 when at home in this esteemed continental competition.

Spain Soccer La Liga

Just ask Barcelona, who fell foul of the Spanish capital club’s staunch rearguard, but also their astute attack, as Atletico bagged one away at the Nou Camp before scoring two courtesy of prolific striker Antoine Griezmann to run out as 3-2 winners of the quarter-final on aggregate.

Bayern must beware, then, as the Madrid outfit are on a superb streak of five triumphs on the trot in all competitions and will be buoyed by their passionate home crowd, and formidable Vicente Calderon record, behind them.

Of course, Bundesliga big-guns Bayern boast one of the best forward lines in the world, and the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Muller will fancy their chances of breaching their backline. Though, Atletico’s excellent attack is underrated and, with the quality of Griezmann, in-form Fernando Torres, Angel Correa and co can outscore the Germans on the night to claim first leg spoils.
