Alvarado finished fourth in the last two renewals of the Grand National, staying well without getting to first three both times.

He was purchased privately by owners William and Angela Rucker after recording a three-timer over fences for former northern handler Howard Johnson in March 2011.

Remarkably, the Ruckers have had a horse placed in the last seven renewals of the Crabbie’s Grand National, all ridden by Paul Moloney; State Of Play was fourth twice (2009 & 2011) and third in 2010, while Cappa Bleu finished fourth in 2012 and second in 2013 and Alavarado came fourth in both 2014 and 2015.

Alvarado’s only outing since last year’s Crabbie’s Grand National was a distant eighth in a Newbury veterans’ handicap chase on March 5th but his campaign is geared to the Crabbie’s Grand National.

Race record

Alvarado has just less than 33 per cent strike rate, and has been placed in half of his career outings.

Starts: 25
