Three Lions forwards firing – who will be England’s Euro 2016 top scorer?
Holly Thackeray | March 28, 2016
As England have just shown against world champions Germany, minus skipper and striker Wayne Rooney and wing wizard Raheem Sterling among others, Roy Hodgson has a wealth of exciting attacking options on his hands.
After thrilling in Berlin, the Three Lions and their ferocious forwards have captured the attention of Euro 2016 tipsters once again. So, here, Coral present a majestic market for customers on England’s top scorer chances in the continental competition.
Who will you back to give England an edge?
Harry Kane
Heroic hitman Kane must be everybody’s favourite after turning the tussle in Germany with a tremendous twist and strike. Some pundits may have doubted the Tottenham dangerman’s pedigree, citing potential second season syndrome, but Kane has answered his critics with aplomb by smashing the 20 goal mark for Spurs again this season.
After dispatching against Die Mannschaft, that’s four from nine in a Three Lions shirt, and Kane will almost certainly lead the line in France – with odds of 15/8 for the 22-year-old to be top scorer.
Wayne Rooney
If Kane is flavour of the moment, England’s all-time leading marksman and captain Rooney is the opposite, having come in for much criticism this campaign. Still, the stats support the skipper, who has fired in five from his last eight when spearheading the Three Lions’ charge.
Top scorer in Euro 2016 qualifying, not just for England but across the whole of Group E, Rooney had begun to find his shooting boots for club Manchester United also, so may make sense to punters at a price of 9/2 to net most this summer.
Jamie Vardy
That vivacious Vardy, fresh from netting an excellent equaliser against Germany, has the same 9/2 odds to top score in France for the Three Lions as Rooney says it all about the Englishman’s meteoric rise.
The lethal Leicester City sharpshooter is chasing compatriot Kane to be Premier League leading scorer, and could potentially couple that feat with a rampant Euro haul.
Having broken his international duck in perhaps the best way possible against England’s bitterest foes, who would bet against Vardy causing havoc on the continent to continue his blockbuster story?
Danny Welbeck
Welbeck is just one of those players – athletic, intelligent, hard-working, that rarely receives the plaudits they deserve. Still, few can quibble with the Arsenal attacker’s record for England, with only injury interrupting his attempt to lead his nation’s Euro qualifying scoring. In the end, the 25-year-old finished just one behind Rooney despite being sidelined.
When the in-form Mancunian marksman dons the Three Lions there is something extra special about his play and, paired with his recent resurgence at the Emirates and uncanny ability to bag a last minute strike, Welbeck is well worth a wager at sensational odds of 7/1.
Dele Alli
Few midfielders will be fancied to nab the most goals for their nations in France, but intuitive Alli bucks the trend. Regularly looking the most threatening on the pitch for the Three Lions, the Spurs starlet has a hell of a stinging shot and nippy nose for goal.
The teenage talent could hit double figures for Tottenham before the term is over, and will be eyeing a real impact for England following tremendous showings versus France and Germany, so a 14/1 price for most goals is more than generous.
Raheem Sterling
Manchester City’s Sterling is certainly one of England’s most magical with the ball at his feet, and one Hodgson will be looking at to make the difference against tight defences.
Skillfull Sterling will be a starter if fit and has always had the ability to pop up and poach a crucial goal, so this relative outside shout at 16/1 could be worth piling the pounds on.
