On Tuesday I said we had no luck, but yesterday it went a bit better for us. We had a second, a third and Welsh Shadow ran well where he probably jumped like a chaser rather than a hurdler. It’s been a good week so far but if we can scramble in a winner on the final day then I will be delighted.
Vincent O’Brien County Handicap Hurdle – 2.10pm
We start day four with Superb Story in the County Hurdle. I did the maths on Tuesday and I thought he would get in. I could not have him any better. I’ve saved him deliberately for the ground. Yes, they might water tonight, but it is still going to be Good. He’s got a nice low weight so there are no excuses we just need some luck in running. As long as there is nothing in there with a stone in hand, then I think he is going to go really well.
Timico Cheltenham Gold Cup – 3.30pm
I would love to see Cue Card win the Gold Cup for the English and for Paddy Brennan. The one I think they all have to beat though is Don Cossack. The ground is coming right for him. How close he would have gone in the King George? Who knows.
Good luck to Victoria Pendleton who rides in the Foxhunter. I’m totally pro to her riding in the race. She takes her chance like every other jockey going out there. She’s worked extremely hard to get to this position.
Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle – 4.50pm
The ground is also going to suit Work In Progress in the Martin Pipe. The track is a bit of an unknown but it is an unknown for a lot of them who will be running at Cheltenham for the first time. He can roll and make them all go at it. He’ll be ridden prominently and is certainly not without a chance.
Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Chase – 5.30pm
I have two in the last. Bridget Andrews rides Savello, who has got a high enough weight. He’s won this race before but we would have preferred to have some horses above us in the weights and softer ground. He’s very consistent though. The track suits him and he’ll put his best foot forward at two miles. He might be a big each-way price.
Harry has chosen to ride Workbench just because of the ground. He has some good course form in the autumn. He’s been saved deliberately for this and I don’t see him disgracing himself. I think he will run his race whether that is finishing sixth or winning the contest.
