Mullins wait for Champion Chase winner should be over

Top Irish trainer Mullins has amazingly never saddled a victorious Queen Mother Champion Chase horse, but in Un De Sceaux has his best chance yet.

Having previously got the better of race rival Sire De Grugy by five lengths in the Clarence House Chase at Ascot in January, Un De Sceaux is also two years younger than another opponent in Sprinter Sacre.

Dodging Bullets, last year’s winner of the Queen Mother Champion Chase, isn’t fancied to repeat that feat because he faces Mullins’ machine that has won 10 of his dozen starts. Un De Sceaux has never been beaten, failing to finish on two occasions over in Ireland.

It is the manner of his Arkle Challenge Trophy triumph around Prestbury Park 12 months ago that marks this horse out as something special, though. Un De Sceaux virtually made all the running, scoring by six lengths in commanding fashion.

That makes a tantalising 10/1 boosted price bet on Un De Sceaux scooping a first-ever Queen Mother Champion Chase success for trainer Mullins well worth taking.
