Mullins’ change of tack will benefit mare

Speculation was rife for several weeks that Annie Power’s connections were prepared to supplement her, paying £20k to enter this magnificent mare in the Champion Hurdle.

A strong race favourite once the rumours started, Annie Power has won 10 of her dozen starts over the obstacles and Mullins switching her to this race should result in a piece of history.

Stablemate and 2015 Champion Hurdle winner Faugheen’s absence from the Cheltenham Festival has afforded Annie Power the opportunity to become the first mare to claim this crown since Dawn Run 32 years ago.

Trainer Mullins has saddled three of the last five victorious Champion Hurdle horses, with Hurricane Fly winning the 2011 and 2013 renewals.

Retained rider Ruby Walsh piloted both stable companions to glory and is set to partner Annie Power again here, having been on board for nine of her 10 victories over fences.

Should Annie Power slip up and fail to win the Champion Hurdle, then fear not. Coral will compensate you, with all those who place losing wagers to receive a €/£5 free bet that can be used across our mobile and digital platforms.
