Man Utd look to overturn Reds deficit

Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United will attempt to overturn a daunting 2-0 deficit at Old Trafford in their Europa League last 32 second leg meeting with bitter rivals Liverpool, but prospects are boosted by a strong home record.

The Red Devils have lost just once in their previous nine outings on home soil across all competitions, and fought back to force a replay with an FA Cup draw against West Ham United last time out.

Van Gaal’s men are therefore 9/2 with Coral to earn progression to the last 16, but will have to produce another gallant comeback in order to so, while Jurgen Klopp’s Reds are 5/1 to triumph in 90 minutes with both sides scoring (£20 max stake).

Hosts can rally to revival

Anthony Martial (11/2 last goalscorer) bagged a last-gasp equaliser to secure a 1-1 cup draw with the Hammers in the last outing, saving the club’s hopes for silverware this term, and Spanish midfielder Juan Mata is confident they can produce the goods at home.

“We need to have a good start on Thursday, with intensity. It’s like a final for us,” said the United playmaker, who is 10/3 to net anytime in 90 minutes on his return from suspension.

“We need a comeback and I’m sure that the atmosphere in Old Trafford will take us closer to that goal. I’m sure it’s possible.”

The hosts will also be bolstered by the return of German anchorman Bastian Schweinsteiger, who made a late appearance against West Ham, and he could be in line for a starting spot here, while Jesse Lingard is available after missing the first leg due to suspension.

Sturridge key threat to Man Utd

Daniel Sturridge’s return to form after injury problems is a huge plus for Klopp, and Roy Hodgson as Euro 2016 beckons, with the England frontman 11/2 to open proceedings after doing so in the first leg match-up.

The rejuvenated striker would be lost without the creative talents of Brazilian duo Roberto Firmino and Phlippe Coutinho though, and the latter is 11/4 to dispatch anytime at Old Trafford.

In this decisive second league, Man Utd will need to enjoy one of their best European nights on home soil to earn progression, while experienced Reds boss Klopp looks to stamp his authority once again and build upon their promising lead.

Dortmund domination to continue in London

Following a comfortable 3-0 victory for Borussia Dortmund in Germany, Thomas Tuchel’s side travel to London with no fear, as Mauricio Pochettino sets Tottenham up for what could be another testing Europa League liaison.

The Argentine boss has evidently opted to focus on domestic duties in recent weeks, as they challenge Leicester City for the Premier League crown, with the Black and Yellows having capitalised to earn a simple first leg triumph.

Tottenham face a mammoth task of reaching the next stage and are 11/2 to secure victory in 90 minutes with both teams getting on the scoresheet (£20 max stake), while Dortmund arrive at 11/5 to win to nil.

Visiting attack can cause havoc

Dortmund’s ferocious forward line was the source of Spurs misery last time out, with menacing German international wideman Marco Reus dispatching a nine-minute double, and he is 7/1 for another brace or more in normal time.

Germany Soccer Bundesliga

Clinical marksman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring after just 30 minutes at the Westfalenstadion and is 9/2 to strike first again this time out, while Shinji Kagawa is 11/4 to net anytime, having bagged a goal for Man Utd against Spurs during the 2012/13 campaign.

Harry Kane will be Tottenham’s key hope as usual and the England forward is 5/1 to score the game’s last goal, with fellow in-form attacker Dele Alli is 11/4 to hit the target anytime, as the hosts look to avoid another hapless European encounter.
