Last time out versus Italy, diligent De Gea, who has kept five international clean sheets in eight, was between the sticks and praised after the match for preserving a draw with his top stops.
The Manchester United goalie has pulled off a number of spectacular saves for his club this campaign and looks to be carrying those show stopping maneuvers over to his country now.
Del Bosque decision
Speaking after the Azzurri encounter, Del Bosque said: “We selected De Gea because this was an important game, just as Sunday’s match is. We chose him to do his duty and he showed confidence and efficiency. We are delighted that David has done so well.
“De Gea and Casillas are good. We have absolute confidence in our two goalkeepers. We have goalkeepers in good condition and we will not enter into comparisons,” continued the coach.
While, Porto keeper Casillas has completed 12 shut outs for the Dragons this season in all competitions and a superb 70 in his Spain career that spans around 168 appearances.
