16:28 Bookies battered by fantastic Festival favourites. Coral and all bookmakers have taken a real hit over these last four days at Cheltenham. Our very own David Stevens has this to say:

“We were already three-nil down going into the final day, and with Gold Cup day being the biggest betting day of the week, we knew we were either going to repair some of the damage, or leave Cheltenham counting the cost of our worst ever Festival.

“Wins in the opening two races for the well-backed pair Ivanovich Gorbatov and Superb Story put the result beyond doubt in punters’ favour, and when hot favourite Don Cossack landed the Gold Cup followed by another winning favourite in On The Fringe, it put the seal on a most miserable week for the bookies, and one we won’t forget in a hurry.

“The one saving grace was that there was no fairytale ending to Victoria Pendleton’s journey from two wheels to four legs, but her honourable defeat on Pacha Du Polder in the Foxhunter was akin to putting a sticking plaster on a broken leg as far as we’re concerned.”
