Sam Barnard, Assistant Sports Editor | February 24, 2016
As the last 32 of the Europa League is set to be cut by half, Coral pick out five second leg fixtures with a tip to take for each ahead of the Thursday evening matches.
We have chosen clashes that don’t involve English clubs, but check out our preview for Premier League outfits Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham as they all aim to reach the second knockout stage too.
All bets are in 90 minutes.
Lazio v Galatasaray – Djordjevic scores first at 4/1
In three official meetings with Galatasaray, Lazio have scored just twice with both strikes coming from Serbian stars.
Sergej Milinkovic-Savic hit the equaliser in the first leg, which ended 1-1, while compatriot centurion Dejan Stankovic got he only goal of the game in a Champions League group game back in 2001.
Another Serb attacker Filip Djordjevic has been the Eagles’ main man in front of goal in the Europa League this season, scoring three in as many games, so back him to hit home first.
Athletic Bilbao v Marseille – Draw at 11/4
In this battle between club formerly managed by mercurial boss Marcelo Bielsa, it was Bilbao that gained a 1-0 lead with an away goal from Aritz Aduriz.
However, the Basque outfit are on a bad run in La Liga, having lost their last two and drawn the one before that, while Marseille have also shared the spoils in their previous two. Therefore, back another tie, which would see the Spaniards through.
Rapid Vienna v Valencia – Bats win at 11/5
Gary Neville’s men are now on somewhat of a roll, after a very slow start to the former Manchester United legend’s tenure, having won their last three in all competitions.
Following the 6-0 smashing of Rapid Vienna in the first leg at the Mestalla, the Bats’ odds for victory again are simply too good not to take.
Napoli v Villarreal – Hamsik scores anytime at 7/4
Villarreal boast a slight 1-0 advantage going into the second leg, after Denis Suarez’s late strike at El Madrigal.
But the Serie A title contenders can hope to rely on Slovakian schemer Marek Hamsik, who has three goals in four games against the Spanish team.
Porto v Borussia Dortmund – Borussia win and both teams score at 3/1
Both Porto and Borussia Dortmund are in fine form in their respective domestic leagues, but it was the Bundesliga outfit that won 2-0 in the first leg and looked as though they had the better quality players.
The Dragons will certainly be determined to try and make up that deficit, so should be able to score, but are still unfancied to win at home.
