Wolverhampton preview: Hindsight is a wonderful thing
David Metcalf | January 8, 2016
With Hindsight is running right at the top of his game at present, and can make light of a further rise in the weights to land the hat-trick in the 1m 6f handicap on today’s twilight card at Wolverhampton (16.45).
The Steve Gollings trained gelding has won three of his last four starts, finishing runner-up on the other occasions.
With Hindsight comes into the contest on the back of two successes over course and distance, and in the last of those showed a good attitude to beat Next Edition by a head off a mark of 67.
The eight-year-old found plenty for pressure when challenged inside the last to hold off a well-treated rival and a 3lb rise for that victory looks more than fair.
With Hindsight has been rated as high as 80 in the past, so there is no reason why he should not be very competitive off a mark of 70 given his current form.
The son of Ad Valorem also has the services of Luke Morris in the saddle, who partnered him to success last time out, and in a class 6 contest lacking any real strength in depth is going to be a tough nut to crack.
Mondial hoping to make it third time lucky
In the 6f maiden that opens proceedings (16.15), Mondial can open her account at the third time of asking.
The Charlie Appleby trained filly shaped with plenty of promise when fourth on debut at Kempton, and duly built on that effort when a fine second of 13 to Go On Go On Go On over course and distance 17 days ago.
Mondial attempted to make all and stuck to the task on well to be beaten 1 3/4 lengths after being headed 100 yards from the line, and the pair pulled 2 1/2 lengths clear of the third home.
That form sets a solid standard in this line-up, and Mondial looks the type who is open to further progression.
The daughter of Shamardal certainly won’t have to improve much to win this, and it will take an above average newcomer to prevent Mondial getting off the mark.
