Coral look back on another action-packed weekend of top-class sport with football, horse racing, cricket, boxing and tennis all taking centre stage.

Mullins contingent confirm Cheltenham credentials

Top Irish trainer Willie Mullins had a fantastic four hugely-fancied horses running at Ascot and Leopardstown this weekend. You know the rest punters… they all delivered, three making all the running:

Un De Sceaux silences Sire De Grugy

Ascot

Gary Moore stable star Sire De Grugy was left in the wake of Mullins gelding Un De Sceaux, who took the Clarence House Chase at Ascot by five lengths on Saturday.

Who can stop the latter in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at this year’s Cheltenham Festival? No horse on this evidence.

Douvan delivers again in Irish Arkle

Douvan

Mullins’ Arkle Challenge Trophy rivals were right to stay at home and not even bother contesting the Irish equivalent at Leopardstown on Sunday, as Douvan destroyed the other two horses foolish enough to oppose him.

Faugheen formidable in Irish Champion Hurdle

Faugheen

And as if Mullins hadn’t already been dominant enough, he saddled a clean sweep of the first three home in the Irish Champion Hurdle. We take our hats off to him, even if he’s almost always pictured wearing one!

Faugheen thwarted stable companions Arctic Fire and Nichols Canyon (both also in shot) in facile fashion to land the feature race at Leopardstown, avenging his baffling loss to the latter at Punchestown in November last year with a dominant 15-length victory.

British hopes star at Australian Open

Andy Murray and Johanna Konta ran out winners in the third round on Saturday, and have since reached the quarters in Melbourne, though title holder Novak Djokovic didn’t have it all his way in his clash…

Murray meets expectations

Australian Open Tennis

As expected, Andy Murray beat Joao Sousa with relative ease to reach the fourth round, though did lose a set along the way. He also beat home hope Bernard Tomic early on Monday UK time for a spot in the last eight.

Courageous Konta creeps through to quarters

Australian Open Tennis

Female British wonder Johanna Konta’s rise in the game has been remarkable over the last year, and she smashed her way through Denisa Allertova in the third round on Saturday before edging past Ekaterina Makarova to reach her first ever Grand Slam quarter-final.

Simon takes Djokovic the distance

Australian Open 2016 - Men Fourth Round - Melbourne

Not many would’ve predicted that France’s Gilles Simon would test dominant world number one and defending Australian Open champion in their fourth round encounter, but the duo battled out a gruelling five setter, which the Serb eventually held on to win.

Rabada rattles through England in final Test

South Africa England Cricket

South Africa may have been without star bowler Dale Steyn for much of their four-Test series against England, which they had already lost 2-0 going into the final encounter in Centurion, but some Proteas pride looks like being restored.

Kagiso Rabada took career best figures of 7-112, including three wickets in 18 balls, to give the hosts real hope of salvaging something from a dismal autumn and winter in the long form of cricket.

Garcia outpoints Guerrero for WBC welterweight title

Garcia Guerrero Boxing

Undefeated Danny Garcia earned a unanimous decision victory over Ruben Guerrero at the Staples Center in Los Angeles to clinch the WBC welterweight title, which was vacated by the now-retired Floyd Mayweather. The judges scored the fight with three identical scores of 116-112.

Premier League talking points

What a weekend of football it was; Norwich City and Liverpool battled out a 5-4 thriller, Charlie Austin got a winner at Old Trafford on his debut and Dele Alli scored a wonder-goal, amongst other memorable moments…

Klopp’s Liverpool edge Norwich thriller

Adam Lallana file photo

In what was one of the all-time great Premier League tussles between Liverpool and Norwich City, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds clinched a 5-4 victory after an enthralling 90 minutes. Adam Lallana struck an injury time winner to earn three points before Klopp and his team rejoiced on the sidelines.

Austin debut goal sinks sorry Man Utd

Britain Soccer Premier League

Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United were met by a round of deafening boos at Old Trafford after Austin’s winning header on his Southampton debut secured three points for the Saints and inflicted more misery on the hosts.

Astounding Alli effort for Spurs

Crystal Palace v Tottenham Hotspur - Barclays Premier League - Selhurst Park

Tottenham ran out 3-1 winners against Crystal Palace, but it was Spurs young-gun Alli’s strike which stole the headlines, as the midfielder enhanced his reputation further with a spectacular goal. Having brought the ball down with great skill, the Englishman swivelled, flicked the ball over Mile Jedinak and smashed home his volley. Superb.

Swansea show spirit to sink Everton

Everton v Swansea City - Barclays Premier League - Goodison Park

Swansea City starred in front of new gaffer Francesco Guidolin, handing the Italian his first Premier League victory against Everton, with goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Andre Ayew. As this pre-match huddle shows, the Swans are sticking together.

Mertesacker sees red as Chelsea triumph

Arsenal v Chelsea - Barclays Premier League - Emirates Stadium

It wouldn’t be a Arsenal v Chelsea clash without hot tempers and red card controversy involving Diego Costa. This time centre half Per Mertesacker headed for an early first-half bath for sliding in on the Blues striker, as the Gunners surrendered their Premier League lead after (you guessed it) Costa delivered the deadly blow.
