Wise Owls swooping on play-off spot
Sheffield Wednesday are odds-on with Coral at 20/23 to beat fierce Yorkshire rivals Leeds United, which would see them move into a play-off spot if other results in the Championship go their way.
Carlos Carvalhal’s side are on a great run in the Championship, which has seen them take 12 points from their last five matches and striker Fernando Forestieri cannot seem to stop scoring.
With five goals in as many matches, Forestieri is well fancied at 5/1 to break the deadlock, while strike partner Gary Hooper bagged a brace last time out in what is a formidable frontline.
The 27-year-old sharpshooter boasts brilliant 6/4 anytime odds and will be looking to build on a fine performance from Wednesday’s thrilling 3-2 win over Bolton.
Tough test for Leeds
While the Elland Road outfit secured a 2-1 win in this fixture last season, their hosts look strong all over the park and a repeat outcome seems slim.
However, last time out, Leeds lost their first match in nine and do have some resilience about them. Striker Souleymane Doukara scored the fastest goal of the Championship season so far, after 12 seconds in the club’s 2-1 defeat to Ipswich Town and will hope to have a similar impact next time around with 2/1 anytime odds.
Loan signing Mustapha Carayol netted on his debut and his 11/2 price in the same market is attractive, considering he will be wanting to impress fans of his new club. There is no better way to do that than by scoring against bitter rivals.
Evans sweating on Wood fitness
Leeds boss Steve Evans is hoping that centre forward Chris Wood will be fit for the clash, with the New Zealand international having missed the match against Ipswich.
He is 2/1 to score in the anytime market if he plays and Evans hopes to have him in the squad for the short trip to South Yorkshire: “Was he (Wood) close? No, not really. It was maybe 60-40 and if we were two games away from the end of the season then we could have played him.
“The medical staff have worked him really hard so we’ll see what reaction he’s got and, if he’s come through his hard work, he’ll be fit for Saturday. If he’s still feeling it, then it might be a problem.”
