Plumpton preview: Bebinn the one to beat

Bebinn has been knocking on the door of late and can gain a deserved success in the 3m 1f handicap chase on today’s card at Plumpton (15.15).

The Ben Case trained mare was last successful in a 3m contest at Leicester 10 months ago when staying on strongly to score by 1/2 a length off a mark of 88.

Bebinn is now able to race off just 3lb higher, and comes into the race on the back of two solid efforts which suggest her time is near.

In the first of those at Chepstow, the nine-year-old kept on well to be beaten 2 3/4 lengths by Leith Hill Legasi and now meets that rival on 19lb better terms.

That should be more than enough for Bebinn to gain her revenge, and the daughter of Brian Boru has since run well to finish third at Huntingdon last month.

The handicapper has also been kind in dropping Bebinn 1lb to a mark of 91, and in a race lacking any real strength in depth this looks a great opportunity for her to get back on the scoresheet.

Have faith in Bishop Wulstan

In the 3m handicap hurdle (14.45), Bishop Wulstan looks weighted to go well at a big price.

The gelding was a dual winner in 2014/15 when trained by Harry Whittington, and in the last of those successes on soft ground at Newbury beat Eminent Poet by two lengths off a mark of 124.

Bishop Wulstan is now able to race off a career-low mark of just 107, and that makes him dangerously well-treated on the pick of his form.

The five-year-old, who is now in the care of Peter Bowen, also comes into the race on the back on couple of decent efforts which suggest he is coming to the boil.

Bishop Wulstan particularly caught the eye when third in a class 3 contest at Ffos Las on his penultimate start, and that run makes him a massive player in this lower grade class 4 contest.

Connections are also now fitting Bishop Wulstan with the tongure-tie for the first time, and with the soft ground holding no fears everything looks in place for a big run.
