Barney takes on Bully Boy, Snakebite squares-up to Jackpot

The Alexandra Palace has an incredible day 13 evening roster for viewers to delve into for exciting viewing after a decadent New Years Day, as the 2016 World Darts Championship truly begins to get to the business end.

With the quality outstanding so far, an enthusiastic Ally Pally crowd welcomes back Raymond van Barneveld for the quarter-finals, as the Dutch master gets ready to rumble with young pretender Michael Smith, plus big names Peter Wright and Adrian Lewis prepare for a showdown.

Read on for Coral’s preview of those two terrific tungsten matches, and check out our thoughts on the afternoon session too…

Raymond van Barneveld v Michael Smith

Darts - Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championships - Day Three - Alexandra Palace
This could prove a tough quarter-final call as, quite simply, customers never know which Van Barneveld will arrive on the oche.

Should this Dutch darting legend show the class which saw him amazingly dump competition favourite and compatriot Michael van Gerwen out in the last 16 (if you missed that classic, check out our World Darts Championship review section for the low-down), then Smith is in for a tricky time.

Barney’s brilliance is odds-on at 8/11 to continue but Bully Boy’s recent emergence as a real contender for this crown leaves him a short price of 11/10 to reach the semi-finals himself. Smith has had the better of Van Barneveld in their last three meetings, though the five-time word champ still holds their head-to-head record with five wins to those three.

As Hague-born crowd favourite Barney has already scalped Stephen Bunting and world number one Mighty Mike, however, he is worth backing at 7/1 while you can to win this World Championship outright, or at 5/2 to at least reach the final.

Peter Wright v Adrian Lewis

2015 William Hill PDC World Championship - Day Eleven - Alexandra Palace
Snakebite saw off Dave Chisnall in an absolute thriller last time out, but it gets no easier for the Scot here, as he faces familiar foe Lewis.

Jackpot stood in Wright’s way on eight occasions across 2015, with the Englishman emphatically winning six including their last 16 scuffle in the Grand Slam of Darts, which makes him justly the 4/5 favourite.

Although, Snakebite (even-money) has looked hungry as he chases his first PDC major, two-time world champion Lewis has not yet even dropped a leg.

Battles between this darting duo are always entertaining, with an excellent price of 15/2 for the pair to draw in the most maximums market. Still, Lewis looks tastiest at 5/1 to edge the match 5-4.

Our dedicated darts archive is the place to be for all the latest oche action.

Coral’s top tip: Plump for Lewis at 5/1 to defeat Wright 5-4 on the night.
