Leonardo DiCaprio red hot favourite to win first Oscar

| 14.01.2016

Following the release of this year’s Oscar nominations, The Revenant is dominating the betting according to leading bookmaker Coral. Leonardo DiCaprio is the red hot favourite to win his first Oscar for his role in the movie at odds of 1-10, British hopeful Tom Hardy is priced at 14-1 to win Best Supporting Actor, while the director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is 8-15 to win Best Director.

However, Spotlight is edging ahead to win Best Picture at 11-10, with The Revenant a close second favourite at 5-4. In the Best Actor category, DiCaprio’s nearest rival is Irish actor Michael Fassbender at 13-2, while Eddie Redmayne is 16-1.

Brie Larson is the 1-3 favourite to win Best Actress, ahead of Saoirse Ronan at 9-2, and Jennifer Lawrence at 8-1. Kate Winslett is 4-1 to win Best Supporting Actress, but Rooney Mara is the hot favourite to steal the award at 1-2.

“It’s great to see so many British and Irish hopefuls amongst the nominess for this year’s Oscars, but the betting suggests it could be a tough year for the home challengers, with Leonardo DiCaprio and The Revenant set to clean up,” said Coral’s Nicola McGeady.
