All Rhodes leading to Swans switch?

As Welsh outfit Swansea City continue their battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season, the club are reportedly close to strengthening their strikeforce after making an approach for a renowned Championship frontman.

The Swans, who recently appointed Francesco Guidolin as their new head coach, are hoping to lure Blackburn Rovers striker Jordan Rhodes to the Liberty Stadium during this January transfer window, but also face competition from second-tier side Sheffield Wednesday for his signature.

It’s believed the top-flight team have already made a bid for the Scotland international forward, but his current employers Blackburn are holding out for a substantial £10m, but Swansea may be forced into offering such a sum to help bolster their ranks and avoid a daunting division drop.

Potters pounce for Imbula

Stoke City are another Premier League outfit searching for reinforcements this month, with Mark Hughes set to swoop for Porto midfielder Giannelli Imbula and, according to reports, they have tabled a £19m bid for the Frenchman.

The talented central engine arrived in Portugal from Ligue 1 club Marseille last year but has found it difficult to cement a secure place in the Porto side, with a switch to the Britannia Stadium potentially a tempting destination.

Stoke’s fellow top-flight challengers Southampton have also expressed an interest in acquiring the talented French anchorman, though it’s Hughes’ men that lead the race for his acquisition in this winter window.

Liverpool being priced out of Teixeira deal

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have been aiming to clinch some winter signings of their own but any attempts to lure Shakhtar Donetsk attacker Alex Teixeira have hit a stumbling block after the Ukrainian club insisted they want a whopping £39m for their Brazilian star.

The 26-year-old has long been tipped to depart Shakhtar for the Premier League, with the Reds only willing to pay £24.5m for his services, a great deal less than what’s been demanded.

Elsewhere, Newcastle United have reportedly tabled a bid of around £7m for Swansea striker Bafetimbi Gomis in their attempts to beat the drop this current campaign, as pressure mounts on boss Steve McClaren.
