Uttoxeter preview: Seymour Eric holds solid claims

Seymour Eric looks decent value to cash-in on a drop in the weights and land the 2m 4f handicap on today’s card at Uttoxeter (13.20).
The Martin Keighley trained gelding thrived in 2012/13 when winning five times, and three of those victories came on bottomless ground.
Seymour Eric’s last success came in a class 3 contest at Ayr off a mark of 125, and the 10-year-old is now able to race in this off a rating of just 114.
That gives the son of Bollin Eric outstanding claims from a handicapping perspective on the pick of his form.
Seymour Eric also shaped as if he retained plenty of ability when last seen in action back in October 2014 and finishing an 18 length seventh of 13 to Ulzanas Road in a decent class 3 contest at Cheltenham.
After racing prominently throughout, he took up the running after the fourth last and only weakened late on after being headed and bumped two out.
Seymour Eric now returns to action after 429 days on the sidelines in a far less competitive class 4 contest, and the absence should not be an issue as he has a has a good record fresh.
The testing underfoot conditions will hold no fears, and this looks a nice opportunity for Seymour Eric to get back on the winning trail.
Pret A Thou worth a punt

In the 2m handicap hurdle (12.50), Pret A Thou has his optimum conditions and looks weighted to enhance his good record at the track.
The John Groucott trained gelding is a dual course and distance winner, and has also ran well on to make the frame on three occasions from just eight starts at the venue.
Pret A Thou is on a long losing run having not scored since landing a class 4 contest at Cartmel back in May 2013 off a mark of 105, but has run well to finish runner-up twice over fences off 115 and 113.
The 12-year-old is now able to race in this class 5 affair off just 100, his lowest rating since December 2008, and that makes the mud-loving son of Funny Baby dangerously well-treated on the pick of his form.
Pret a Thou should also now be spot on to do himself justice after shaping as if badly needed the run on return to action three weeks ago, and everything looks in place for a big run.
