Inter ambition should see off Eagles

The Nerazzurri are sitting pretty atop of Serie A, staring down from the summit at underwhelming upcoming guests Lazio, who are 16 points below them and 12th in the table.

It’s no wonder, then, that Inter Milan are odds-on 8/11 match favourites as Roberto Mancini tries to speed ahead of the Scudetto-chasing pack.

Italy Soccer Italian Cup

Inter have been beaten just twice all term across all competitions and are strongest at the San Siro, where they have kept five clean sheets on the bounce. An ensemble cast all chipping in with goals, the Milan men hold a clear advantage over their Roman rivals, who have scored just twice in their past four outings. Another shut out could be on the cards then, with the Nerazzurri 9/5 to win to nil.

Lazio stars unsettled?

While the Eagles have admittedly been poor this campaign, with their individual stars not shining quite so brightly as last season, they do not have poor a head-to-head record against their hosts, coming close with 18 wins to 20.

Having taken seven points from nine across their past three trips to the San Siro, Lazio are a little long at 7/2 to triumph away from home comforts but more appealing at 5/2 for a splitting of spoils.

Though, it can’t help that Inter are being consistently linked with their best and brightest, notably attacking midfielder Antonio Candreva (7/2 to score anytime) plus midfield conductor and Lazio captain Lucas Biglia (5/1). Both players ooze class, but Biglia’s organisation and awareness would be most missed, though his agent did not move to quash rumours of a move north.

“A renewal at Lazio is not a certainty. There are lots of clubs, in Serie A and around Europe, looking at the player,” Enzo Montepaone told press of the skipper.

“He is happy in the colours of Lazio, but we cannot deny his reputation is growing around the world. We need to think about what is best for his career. There are a lot of teams interested and Inter are just one of them. “

Mancini’s marksmen

Inter are hardly known for their expansive play at the moment, but have clocked-up seven goals across their past two fixtures. Argentine poaching pair Mauro Icardi (9/2 to open the scoring)and Rodrigo Palacio (11/2 to net last) have both been on the scoresheet recently and have drawn blood in this fixture previously to boot.

Ivan Perisic (11/5 in the anytime market) and Adem Ljajic (23/10) make for potent attacking midfield support while, for the guests, Felipe Anderson (7/2) bagged a brace versus the black and blue half of Milan last term, and Alessandro Matri (14/5) has hit two in his past two.
