Punters have Murray Mania as Sports Personality of the Year
Published:
Andy Murray landed a gamble this evening by winning the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award for 2015 where he was odds-on at 4-9 with leading bookmaker Coral before tonight’s show. The British number one was well backed since he helped Great Britain to their first Davis Cup success since 1936.
Rory McIlroy is the 6-1 favourite with Coral to be crowned the winner in 12 months’ time, Murray is 7-1 to defend his award, Jessica Ennis-Hill is 8-1 and Lewis Hamilton can be backed at 9-1.
“Ever since he helped Great Britain to their first Davis Cup success in 79 years, punters have been piling into Andy Murray to win this award and they got it absolutely right, costing Britain’s bookmakers a six-figure pay-out,” said Coral’s John Hill.
