Magpies to fly against Villa

After two straight wins, there is Christmas spirit on Tyneside and St James’ Park is expected to be rocking and as a result, Newcastle are evens with Coral to overcome Aston Villa.

Recent victories over Liverpool and Tottenham have seen key players and deliver. Against the Reds, Georginio Wijnaldum ran the show and consequently is 7/4 to net anytime, though he is also not a bad price at 9/1 to score two or more, as the Magpies prepare for a busy Premier League Christmas schedule.

Meanwhile, fellow summer signing Aleksandar Mitrovic struck the first in their 2-1 win over Tottenham and, as a result is 5/1 to repeat that feat.

Perez puppetry pivotal

One player who has stepped up considerably for the Magpies in recent matches is striker Ayoze Perez who hit the winner against Spurs, with his craft providing the link between Mitrovic and Wijnaldum.

The Spaniard is 6/1 to start as he finished at White Hart Lane and strike the opener and could well run riot against an Aston Villa side who have been leaking goals of late in the absence of captain Micah Richards.

Garde gives warning ahead of clash

New Villa boss Remi Garde, meanwhile, has issued a warning to his players prior to the match saying he needs personnel who are committed to the cause.

“I am proud that I have not yet seen a player who has come to me and said he wants to leave in January because he’s not happy here,” said Garde.

“Maybe it will happen. It will be the time to do that because after that I will need players totally committed with me, and me with my players.”

Joleon Lescott was the last player to score for the club in their 1-1 draw against Southampton, which was Villa’s last away match, though Jordan Ayew dispatched prior to this in the narrow defeat to Watford and is 7/2 anytime.
