Potters boss Mark Hughes managed to get one over his former club Manchester City thanks to an excellent understanding between brace-bagger Marko Arnautovic and supply-line Xherdan Shaqiri at a windswept Britannia Stadium.

Gary Moore gelding Sire de Grugy took full advantage of Simonsing pulling out of Sandown’s feature race – the Tingle Creek Chase – to repeat his 2013 victory, beating Special Tiara and favourite Vibrato Valtat.
Cherries come away Chelsea clash with win
Eddie Howe hailed Bournemouth’s victory at Stamford Bridge over reigning Premier League champions Chelsea (6/5 for a top six finish) as the biggest in the south coast club’s history. The gloom is really setting in for Blues boss Jose Mourinho, though.
Thunder from Down Under seals second UK Snooker success
Australian expat Neil Robertson romped to a 10-5 victory over Chinese cueman Liang Wenbo at York’s Barbican Centre to become a two-time UK Championship Snooker winner. Like Sire de Grugy above, the Thunder from Down Under regained a crown he last won in 2013.
Neville factor sees Bats halt Barca run
While it may be a bit early to be giving new Valencia boss credit, as he hadn’t even officially taken over at the time, he did watch from the stands as his brother Phil helped Los Che to a draw against La Liga leaders Barcelona, who were on a run of six top-flight wins.
Curry sets NBA alight once more
Winner of last season’s MVP award Steph Curry has really kicked on this campaign too, and helped defending NBA champions Golden State Warriors (2/1 favourites) to brilliant 114-98 victory over Brooklyn Nets, thus continuing their record 22-0 start.
Ridgewell’s Timbers claim MLS Cup
Staying in the USA, Portland Timbers lifted their first ever MLS Cup at the weekend, after beating Columbus Crew 2-1 in the final with the help of former Birmingham City defender Liam Ridgewell.
Mahrez magic helps Leicester regain top spot
Leicester City have record-breaker Jamie Vardy much to thank for their remarkable rise to the top of the Premier League. But with the striker making a rare goalless appearance, it was Riyad Mahrez who made sure they still went away with three points by hitting a terrific hat-trick to down Swansea City 3-0.
