QPR v Burnley – Home win
There is a Hoops dugout debut for new boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink here, and the old adage about getting a reaction from the players could prove true. QPR kept hold of their star striker Charlie Austin, but Sean Dyche’s Clarets couldn’t with Danny Ings. That will be the difference.
Bournemouth v Man Utd – Away win
Eddie Howe and the Cherries are riding the crest of a wave after beating Chelsea, but the Red Devils will want retribution for dropping out of the Champions League. Bournemouth should be fearful of becoming Louis van Gaal’s whipping boys.
Udinese v Inter Milan – Away win
The hosts are reliant on veteran Antonio Di Natale for goals, as they have been for years, but Roberto Mancini’s men should be winning this game if they are to be regarded as serious Scudetto contenders.
St Johnstone v Celtic – Away win
Ronny Deila’s boys ought to be responding to their Europa League elimination with a display that lays down a marker against the Saints.
Aston Villa v Arsenal – Away win
Master Arsene Wenger takes on apprentice Remi Garde here, and the Gunners have way too much quality to be kept out by a Villa side with bleak-looking prospects.
Tottenham v Newcastle – Home win
A trip to White Hart Lane will be a reality check for Steve McClaren’s Magpies after their exploits at home to Liverpool. The midfield battle on paper looks very one-sided.
Napoli v Roma – Home win
Victory in all of the last four in Naples, plus prolific Argentina poacher Gonzalo Higuain going up against a rickety Giallorossi rearguard, means the Little Donkeys should win comfortably.
Villarreal v Real Madrid – Away win
Rafa Benitez’s boys were at their destructive best when putting eight past Malmo, and there is simply no living with Los Blancos when they produce that sort of display. Expect the Yellow Submarine to be sunk, even in its own harbour!
Blackburn v Nottingham Forest – Draw
Both of these teams are improving, so a point apiece at Ewood Park looks a shout – especially as Forest play at Wolves on Friday and then again here.
Leicester v Chelsea – Home win
The hosts are brimming with confidence, and the Blues look beleaguered. Claudio Ranieri’s Foxes can further thwart Jose Mourinho, and deepen Blues gloom.
