Swans sack managerial novice Monk
After much speculation, Swansea City have sacked head coach Garry Monk after a dismal run of one win in a dozen games across all competitions.
The Swans have picked up just six Premier League points from the last 33 available. A 3-0 home defeat by Leicester City proved the final straw for managerial novice Monk, who succeeded Michael Laudrup at the Liberty Stadium in February 2014.
From 77 matches in charge of Swansea, Monk managed to win 28 – a ratio of almost 36.5 per cent. He leaves south Wales with the team a single point and three places above the relegation zone, and Coral make them 7/2 chances to be relegated.

“Decision made reluctantly”
“The decision has been made very reluctantly and with a heavy heart,” said Swans chairman Huw Jenkins in an official club statement a day after his receiving his OBE.
“To find ourselves in our current situation from where we were in the first week of September, and considering the drop of performance levels and run of results over the last three months, it has brought us to this unfortunate decision today.
“Garry took on the job 22 months ago with the backing of everyone at the club. And when you take into account the excellent campaign we had last season when we broke all club records in the Premier League, nobody foresaw the position we would be in at this moment in time.”
Liberty replacement to be named ASAP
“Bearing that in mind and the current uncertainty around the club, we felt the situation needed clarity to move forward. It was not a decision we took lightly, especially given Garry’s history and standing within the club.
“And it goes without saying that we wish Garry all the very best for the future and thank him for his tremendous service, not only as a player over the last decade, but also as our manager. He will always have a warm welcome at this football club. We hope to appoint a replacement as soon as possible.”
At this very early stage, the likes of Brendan Rodgers (evens to take over), the man who got Swansea into the Premier League; Rangers boss Mark Warburton (14/1); and out of work manager David Moyes (11/4) are all rumoured candidates to succeed Monk. The latter is reportedly not interested in the role, but that has not stopped tabloid gossip columns from linking the Scot with the Liberty hotseat.
