  • Sturridge bagged a brace against Southampton last time
  • Liverpool hit six in Capital One Cup against Saints
  • Newcastle have lost eight of their last 12 matches

Sublime Sturridge has fond memories of St James’ Park

Daniel Sturridge goes into this match having come back from injury against Southampton in midweek to strike twice and can carry this formidable form into the clash against Newcastle.

We feature Sturridge here as part of a matchday special in our Bet of the day, with Coral offering outstanding odds of 9/4 on him scoring and Liverpool to beat Newcastle, with customers able to place a maximum bet of £20.

In April, 2013 Sturridge netted two against the Magpies as the Reds ran out 6-0 winners and with Jurgen Klopp’s confidence in the England striker, he will be confident of picking up where he left off on the south coast, especially with a talented supporting cast of Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino carving openings for him.

Ruthless Reds can clip Magpies wings

Liverpool are showing genuine Premier League title form currently and will take some stopping against Newcastle. Therefore, Steve McClaren certainly won’t relish this fixture considering both clubs current run at the minute.

The Reds have won seven of their last eight matches and have lost just once in 17 fixtures, both stats occurring across all competitions.

In contrast, their hosts have won just twice in 10 Premier League fixtures and it doesn’t look good for them against the Reds.

Klopp encouraged by Saints sinking

Following the club’s 6-1 win over Southampton, Reds boss Klopp has said that he is happy to see the belief returning to his players.

“We could enjoy the second half of the Southampton game on the bench, not because the game was finished but because the players never lost concentration and did what they had to do until the end,” said Klopp.

“You could see the body language of the Southampton players change, not my side. That is a good sign.

“You can’t always play with a miserable face – OK, that’s how I play tennis but that’s my problem. I don’t expect someone to go into a one-on-one situation with a big smile on their face but it’s important to be able to enjoy what you are doing. That is best for everybody,” the German continued.

“Football always looks only like work in difficult times. Football is always hard work but it looks easier when you are on a good run and that is enough to enjoy.”
