Coral’s bet of the day
- Liverpool have beaten Southampton to nil on their past two trips to St Mary’s
- Saints have won just one of their last five games against the Reds
- Ronald Koeman’s men have lost two on the trot
- Jurgen Klopp has steered his side to three successive victories
Liverpool a fantastic 4/1 to defeat Southampton to nil in 90 minutes
The Capital One Cup continues to take centre stage this midweek, as Premier League pair Southampton and Liverpool clash in the quarter-finals.
In this quarter-final kerfuffle there is enticing odds to be had, and Coral reckon the Reds are a brilliant bet at 4/1 in a Coral match special (max stake £20) to finish this fray in normal time with a win to nil, and so seal a place in the semis.

The stats do not stack up well for Ronald Koeman’s Saints, who come up against several former St Mary’s stars when they play host to Jurgen Klopp and co on Wednesday evening. Crucially, Liverpool have shut out the south coasters with two victories to nil on their last two trips to face them, but more than recent history suggests success for this bet.
Reds on rampant run
Fans have been waiting for new coach Klopp’s magic to rub off on Anfield outfit Liverpool, and the German tactician’s tinkering looks to have finally paid off, as the Reds are on a run of three convincing victories across all competitions.
Having hit seven goals across their past three games, including a 4-1 mauling of Manchester City and a tough 1-0 triumph over Swansea City, Liverpool have shown they are just as capable of grinding out important results as battering opponents into submission.

Geared up for the big games, Klopp has previously taken points off Tottenham, Chelsea and City, as well as Southampton in the league, so should not be shy about visiting St Mary’s. As the Merseysiders are yet to meet defeat on the road under their new gaffer, and have kept four clean sheets during his reign so far, the signs all point to Liverpool reaching the next stage.
Perhaps the most important aspect of Klopp’s Anfield leadership, is that Liverpool’s big summer signings are now performing. Roberto Firmino looks a different player under the German, while Christian Benteke is back among the goals. In addition, skipper Jordan Henderson could also be a returning boost for the Reds.
Southampton struggles
By comparison, Saints have struggled for consistency this campaign, and enter this cup clash on the back of two defeats, with just one strike on target in those outings too.
Their recent record against the Reds does not make for pretty reading either, as the south coast side are without triumph in four against the Merseyside men, and have also lost the last two on home turf.
