Bet of the day

  • Cardiff City have not been beaten by Birmingham City in seven meetings
  • They sit one Championship place and three points ahead of the West Midlands side
  • Kenwyne Jones has struck five league goals this season
  • He recently dispatched a double over Brentford in midweek

Jones 9/2 to strike in a Cardiff win

Welsh outfit Cardiff City make the trip to face Birmingham City for a Friday night Championship clash and it’s in this second-tier meeting where Coral’s bet of the day lies, with Kenwyne Jones 9/2 to score in a Bluebirds victory over the West Midlands hosts.

The visitors sit one place and three points above their latest Championship challengers, and their recent history in this fixture suggests Russell Slade’s men should comfortably oversee another triumph this time around.

Cardiff have not been toppled by their latest opponents in the last seven match-ups, and the hosts are currently on a hapless run of five domestic league games without picking up a win, giving more encouragement to the travelling Bluebirds.

Bluebirds hitman Jones in fine form

Trinidad and Tobago targetman Jones has been flying of late, rattling in a recent deadly double over Brentford to take his season tally up to five league strikes, having also grabbed the winner in that midweek tussle after Cardiff had been pegged back 2-2 in the latter stages.

The in-form frontman is seen as the club’s pivotal component in a play-off bid this current campaign and, with his contract set to expire next summer, Slade is desperately keen to tie up a new deal for his crucial centre forward.

“I can’t comment really on his new contract. That’s an internal matter to be negotiated with the players we wish to keep,” stated Slade.

“Kenwyne’s a big part of what we do here.”

“I leave that to the club and hope we resolve it. Kenwyne’s a big part of what we do here. He’s playing regularly.

“To get a target man is not easy. He gives us a focal point. He’s good in the air and effective in both boxes. Those attributes are not easy to come by.”

The Bluebirds will be confident of flying off with three points from their visit to St Andrew’s this Friday night’s Championship action, especially with rampant frontman Jones within their ranks, so back the striker to net again in an away win at 9/2!
