Bet of the day concerns Super Sunday

  • Giroud hit a hat-trick previously
  • The Frenchman struck against Villa last term
  • Arsenal striker back to his best

Giroud gunning for Villa

After his sensational hat-trick last time out the Arsenal striker is a fantastic 5/1 with Coral to score two or more against Aston Villa.

Giroud also scored in Arsenal’s 4-0 FA Cup final victory over Aston Villa in May, so is well fancied to net once more as the Gunners attempt to reach the summit of the Premier League. With a supporting cast of Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott supplying chances, there are bound to be opportunities galore.

Wenger hails fellow Frenchman

Manager Arsene Wenger has praised his striker following his performance against Olympiakos, hailing him as a top player: “I think he’s in that league because he plays for one of the best clubs in Europe and he scores goals,” Wenger said. “If you look at the number of games and the number of goals, you have to give him credit.

“He’s not only a goalscorer, he’s a guy who puts work in for the team. I think he’s among the best strikers in Europe.

“I believe recently he has come back with an improved game and with his finishing. Wednesday was one of his best performances on all fronts.”

Flamini: Giroud “deserves credit”

Teammate and compatriot Flamini has also praised the forward: “All great strikers have to respond in the big games,” Flamini said. “Olympiakos was a good test for us and Olivier responded well. It was a great performance from him and he helped the team very much. He is a top scorer.

“He deserves the credit and I think he gets it. I have not seen it anywhere or from anyone that he is not a top goalscorer. He is proving it on the pitch so is doing very well. I am glad and happy for him.”
