Aston Villa v Arsenal - Barclays Premier League - Villa Park

It’s Leicester City who incredibly lead the top-flight standings during the Christmas holidays but, with the Foxes expected to tail off at some stage in the near future, this clash at the Emirates could go a long way to deciding the 2016 champions.

Arsene Wenger’s north Londoners currently hold second position in the table, five points adrift of Leicester and a game in hand, while Man City are a single point below the Gunners in third place.

Gunners hold impressive recent fixture record

Arsenal will enter this latest league encounter with Manuel Pellegrini’s Sky Blues with plenty of confidence and no fear at all, having not tasted defeat at the hands of their Manchester rivals since December 2013.

The Gunners are unbeaten in the previous four meetings since that last loss at the Etihad, having won two and drawn the other two match-ups, including Premier League and Community Shield victories last season.

In both of those triumphs last term, ferocious frontman Giroud was pivotal to Arsenal’s success, rounding off a simple 3-0 Community Shield victory as well as netting in the 2-0 league win on their travels in January this year.

Giroud gets goals

Arsenal’s terrific targetman has previously faced plenty of criticism from fans and pundits, but this season he has proved his worth so far and has become one of Wenger’s most trusted stars.

The France international striker has bagged an impressive 16 goals in all competitions for club and country so far this current campaign, including an emphatic five in his previous three outings for Arsenal.

Those strikes also include a clinical Champions League hat-trick over Olympiakos, which sealed his side’s progression to the knockout stage, so make sure not to miss out on an incredible 7/2 for him to dispatch again in a Gunners win over City during this intriguing Premier League meeting!
