Arsenal edging closer to Premier League top spot

Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal are closing in on upstarts Leicester City at the Premier League summit, just two points adrift of the surprise leaders. This is an ideal chance for the Gunners to close the gap, as they travel to an Aston Villa side still in turmoil, while the Foxes face a bruised Chelsea.

Villa (outsiders with Coral at 6/1 to win) are without a victory across all competitions since September, an embarrassing stretch of 11 games, and changing coaches has not yet borne fruit in Remi Garde’s past four fixtures, as the Midlands men still sit rock bottom in the top flight.

Should customers fancy a punt on the Birmingham claret and blue, backing a draw at 14/5 would be best, as the Villans were heroes in Garde’s bow by holding Manchester City to a stalemate and may be seeking to stifle again.

The gung-ho Gunners will likely be having none of that, however, as they have racked up 10 goals across their past four outings, so look much tastier at 11/5 to score three or more, than odds-on at 8/15 to triumph. After all, Arsenal memorably last smashed four past Villa at Wembley in the 2015 FA Cup final, and have hit 12 in their previous three meetings with the second city club.

Giroud to grab goals galore

One particular plus for Wenger is that Oliver Giroud is looking sharp and hungry for goals. The potent poacher hit a heroic hat-trick last time out in the Champions League, and has also notched in all of his last four frays with the Villans.

The French forward should be giving Garde’s rearguard sleepless nights, then, and is a fantastic value punt at 4/1 to score first, or 5/1 to bag a brace or better.

Giving the Gunners something to think about up top are also recently returned pacy pair Theo Walcott (6/5 to score anytime) and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (10/3), while in-form Aaron Ramsey is 15/8 in the anytime market.

As for the hosts, defender Micah Richards is still a doubt, though wideman Leandro Bacuna and striker Rudy Gestede (11/4 to get on the scoresheet anytime) are expected to be fit, along with playmaking prodigy Jack Grealish (14/1 to fire in last), who will return to the squad.
